Being a business student at Highlands College, I wasn’t sure what to expect doing my work experience with a recruitment agency. However, the Axal Leine team gave me a very warm welcome making me feel like part of the team straight away. I chose my placement with them because I wanted to learn more about what is involved in recruitment on a day-to-day basis. I now realise the amount of hard work that goes into finding the perfect job for someone.
During my placement I have gone with the team to a few of their candidate meetings and I sat in on a meeting with a client. I now know about the system Axal Leine uses to advertise jobs that are available and how to add / remove the jobs from the website. I have also been shown how to apply as a candidate. I have been changing the formats of CVs and checking if the jobs on the website correlate with what jobs the client has open.
Axal Leine’s strapline is “recruitment personalised” and this is shown by how much time and care they take to find the perfect job for each person. I have experienced the flexible and welcoming approach that is taken when meeting new candidates to make them feel as comfortable as possible.
They have kindly helped me with setting up my LinkedIn account as well as suggesting what departments they think I could work well in, this has given me a clearer idea of what I do / don’t want to go into when I have finished being a student. During these two weeks I have seen how many people want to change their jobs for various reasons has reinforced to me that it can take years to find the perfect job.
I feel I have been able to improve my confidence and communication skills during my placement and I now have a better understanding of the recruitment sector. I have also realised how much work is put into finding people the right job for them and how much attention to detail is needed. Talking to the team has taught me so much about the finance industry in general and what different jobs it has to offer. This has allowed me to realise there is much more to it than just maths and accounting!
I really appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given and would like to thank everyone for a really valuable placement that I know will help to shape my future career.
