It’s hard to believe it was only three weeks ago it seemed like summer would never end with beautiful sunny calm weather and fantastic surf turning up for the GB Cup of Surfing. What a brilliant weekend it was, one I’m sure our Channel Islands team and the teams from Scotland, Wales and England will never forget!
Being part of such a brilliant event, having my son Albie in the team, Axal Leine being one of the sponsors and me accidentally becoming one of the commentators (my next career some have said!!) made me incredibly proud throughout the weekend and as the positive comments on the comp, the organisation, the level of surfing, pour in I’ve become prouder and prouder! Naturally I’m especially super proud of Albie who at age 11 held his own against lads of 17 & 18 in solid surf.
Two champs were crowned for four categories, which has to be a very rare thing! Lukas Skinner and Lauren Sandland with resounding wins in the junior and open for the women’s and mens events! Incredible surfing by them both throughout the event. The surfing Lukas did was absolutely world class, throwing huge turns and massive aireals that would put the best in the world to the test!!
