During my time at Axal Leine, I was introduced to the world of recruitment and finance, and it truly opened my eyes to an industry I had only ever seen from the outside. I was able to learn so much in such a short period of time and gained valuable experience working in a professional yet positive environment. One of the highlights was being able to attend meetings with global banks and large private equity firms, where senior professionals took the time to share their own experiences with me.
A particularly memorable moment was when both the Deputy Head and Head of a Trust company sat down with me to discuss my career interests. They offered insight into how their role works, what to expect in the industry, and what skills are important to develop. These conversations gave me a deeper understanding of the finance sector and helped motivate me to think more seriously about my own future career path.
I also had the opportunity to sit in on calls regarding potential new clients. Being able to research companies, understand where their journey began, and see how they grew into successful businesses—many of which are now considering expanding internationally—was incredibly fascinating. It helped me appreciate how dynamic and ambitious the financial world can be.
During my placement, I learned how to use Axal Leine’s internal systems such, and I gained hands on experience editing CVs, uploading candidate information, and reviewing job descriptions to create job adverts. These tasks helped me build confidence in using recruitment tools and gave me a clearer understanding of what employers look for in candidates. I also learned a lot about professional communication—writing emails, asking relevant questions, and understanding how important attention to detail is.
Working in an office environment and being exposed to so many different aspects of the finance industry was amazing. Both Renny and Lucinda were incredibly supportive, always willing to share their knowledge and experiences to help guide me in figuring out what I want to do in my career. Their encouragement and advice made a huge difference in my confidence and motivation.
My two weeks of work experience at Axal Leine is something I will always remember. It was fun, professional, and genuinely a great environment to be in. I feel like it has prepared me for the world of work—I’m now more confident meeting new people, speaking in a professional context, and presenting myself in a polished way, whether that’s through communication, appearance, or attitude.
